I’ve been in the Daily Bruin since my first year at UCLA, but I’m still not great with words. From the very beginning, I’ve made videos: I’ve always only been in charge of recording, shaping, documenting and interviewing people.

Daily Bruin reporters travel across California to explore the effects of Proposition 64 on the cannabis industry and how it affects students, businesses and medicine. Over Spring Break, Daily Bruin Staffers took a road trip up the West Coast to visit Connor and Christian Kramme’s marijuana farm in Siskiyou County. Connor Kramme, a recent UC Berkeley graduate and brother of third-year MCDB student Christian Kramme, highlights how the Proposition 64 decision affects the brothers’ cannabis business and his day-to-day experience living in a trailer on the farm.

Growing cannabis is a lot harder and more complicated than one might think. In this animated graphic, the Daily Bruin walks through how farms cultivate and process the buds sold at the neighborhood dispensaries.

Rodrigo Aranda was a UCLA student who left university to pursue a career in recreational marijuana distribution. He tells his story and what inspired him to enter the business.

Proposition 64 passed in November, legalizing recreational marijuana use in California. When it goes into full effect on Jan. 1, 2018, anyone 21 or older, including UCLA students, will be able to buy marijuana from stores with retail licenses.

This summer, seven Daily Bruin Video journalists will document their experiences at different locations around the world.
To start the series off, Iris Lee, Daily Bruin assistant Video producer, is spending her summer in New York City.

“When I explain it to people, I tell them I’m not just a former druggie who needs to do this. It’s a modern approach to a very large market,” says second-year molecular, cell and developmental biology student Christian Kramme.

Second-year political science student Weiwen Balter meets artist Cedric Tai in what they both claim as a “serendipitous” encounter. This chance meeting leads to the CAC month-long, weekly art series workshop “Amateur Strategies” in the Kerckhoff art gallery space.

“I’ve never really played many shows,” says third-year international development studies student Isaiah Murtagh. Murtaugh and his roommate, third-year geography and environmental studies student Andre Arifin, will perform at Saturday night’s Spring Sing 2016, having met through mutual friends.
