UCLA’s Quidditch team held open practice on Thursday, Sept. 29. A competitive game involving sticks between legs and dodge balls named bludgers, UCLA’s Quidditch matches would not be Quidditch without the Golden Snitch.
Rocky Avalos is a fourth-year art student who specializes in costume design and makeup for UCLA student films. Daily Bruin Video talked to her on the set of a short film to learn about her unique character outfits and shocking special effects makeup.
“When I explain it to people, I tell them I’m not just a former druggie who needs to do this. It’s a modern approach to a very large market,” says second-year molecular, cell and developmental biology student Christian Kramme.
“I’ve never really played many shows,” says third-year international development studies student Isaiah Murtagh. Murtaugh and his roommate, third-year geography and environmental studies student Andre Arifin, will perform at Saturday night’s Spring Sing 2016, having met through mutual friends.
The coach of UCLA’s Mock Trial team is much more than a lawyer, businessman and graduate professor. He is a Cuban refugee, has gone to over 1,000 professional baseball games, owns a Han Solo refrigerator and drives a black Tesla with the license plate “Death Star.”
