Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the jury began deliberating to reach a verdict.

Closing arguments began Friday morning around 9 a.m., with both parties reviewing their evidence before the jury one last time.

Peter Racioppo, a graduate student worker in the rank-and-file caucus of United Auto Workers 4811, said he showed up to the the AFSCME Local 3299 strike because he feels UAW and AFSCME have shared interests.

Since around 3:25, union members have marched twice around the Luskin Conference Center and continue to make their way through campus, wrapping around Pauley Pavilion and marching down Bruin Walk toward Bruin Plaza, chanting, “Union power.”

Around 3:25 p.m., union members began marching off campus toward the Luskin Conference Center, chanting, “UC, UC, you can’t hide. We can see your greedy side.”

Three people were arrested for obstructing Bruin Walk, and one person was arrested for interfering with an officer, according to a post on the social media platform X from UCPD at 7:32 p.m.

Jeffrey Chobanian, administrative division lieutenant for UCPD, said the protest violated the university’s Time, Place and Manner policies by obstructing access of community members, using amplified sound and blocking traffic at Murphy Hall.

The officers are now walking down Bruin Walk toward the protest in Bruin Plaza.

Around 20 UCPD officers are standing at the top of Bruin Walk wearing riot gear.

Around 1:50 p.m., CSC security blocked off Bruin Walk at Kerckhoff Hall, encouraging students to go around, as they were unlikely to get through.
