The Bruins opened the postseason in mercy-rule fashion. 
No. 5 seed UCLA softball (44-8, 19-5 Pac-12) defeated Grand Canyon (39-15, 19-5 WAC) by a score of 12-1 in five innings Friday night at Easton Stadium to open the NCAA regionals.

Over the past month, the Bruins have lost five of their last 11 Pac-12 outings.
Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez said the past up-and-down month has provided the team with learning experiences as it enters the postseason.

UCLA players and coaches were not immediately available for interviews.
In a rubber match to decide the top of the Pac-12 standings, the Bruins lost in walk-off fashion.
