UCLA’s political science department cut teaching assistant and reader positions in response to a budget deficit, faculty said.
Each teaching assistant position cut by the department reduces enrollment capacity in political science courses by roughly 60 students, said Margaret Peters, political science professor and vice chair for graduate studies.

UCLA became the first UC campus to launch an academic department dedicated to labor studies this fall.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council approved a resolution calling on UC President James Milliken to release the letter from the Department of Justice which sought a $1 billion settlement from UCLA and specific concessions to restore the university’s research funding at its first meeting of the 2025-26 academic school year Sept.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council called for excused absences for students impacted by immigration enforcement and the renaming of Campbell Hall at its meeting March 4.
