UCLA bounced back from a slow start on vault to capture fourth at the NCAA Super Six, improving on its fifth-place finish in 2016. No. 1 Oklahoma took home the program’s third national title in four years, with a NCAA championship-record score of 198.3875.
Oklahoma (197.725), UCLA (197.500) and Utah (197.050) will advance to the NCAA gymnastics finals Saturday in St. Louis. UCLA freshmen Kyla Ross and Madison Kocian competed in the all-around Friday, placing second and third in the first round of semifinals after Utah’s McKayla Skinner.
Redshirt senior Samantha Peszek, the usual all-around competitor on the UCLA gymnastics team, was conspicuously absent at Pauley Pavilion, competing in only one event, the uneven bars.
