For the first time in days, there is no smoke plume visible from the Hill Sunday morning. Official sensors measure the air quality as “good” – some of their lowest readings since the fires began – and blue skies surround campus.

The UCLA Mailroom, which serves students on the Hill, will be operating with modified hours next week. It will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

Bruin Plate is the only dining hall that remains open on the Hill starting dinner Saturday. All other dining halls and takeout locations will be closed because of the switch to remote instruction, according to a sign displayed at front desks of dorm buildings and closed dining halls.

UCLA staff are directing traffic on the Hill and near university apartments as people continue to leave campus. Traffic on the Hill appears mostly calm.
As of 10:18 p.m., there is no evacuation warning or notice for the UCLA campus.

As the evacuation zones get increasingly close to campus, many of the students who remain on the Hill are leaving. Ash is falling from the sky, leaving a thick coating on car hoods and walkways.

The UCLA Air Quality website is currently unavailable, with the most recent measurement from around 6 p.m. indicating that air quality on campus is “good.” Ash has begun to accumulate on some surfaces on the Hill, and some students reported being able to see large particles of ash falling from the sky.

A significant number of students have left the hill as of Friday morning. Bruin Plate was almost empty compared to normal at the end of the breakfast slot, with just a handful of students finishing their meals.

With deteriorating air quality on the Hill, students are continuing to leave. Jacob Mitry, a fourth-year psychobiology student, said he was still on the Hill Thursday morning, but might leave later in the day or Friday.

Traffic on the Hill is now minimal and flowing, with only a few cars remaining.

Housing safety officers on the Hill directed traffic as gridlock on streets surrounding the Hill worsened around 9:50 p.m.. Traffic appeared to be flowing on Sunset Boulevard at the time.
